Strolling along tree-lined paths and watching the leaves in their different color and shapes this last month of fall, one is reminded of topaz. Topaz, like the leaves of fall, comes in many variations. Pure topaz is transparent and has no color. Its impurities are what give topaz its distinctive colors.
Orange topaz, or precious topaz, is the traditional color for the November birthstone, and the official state gemstone of Utah.

Citrine, November’s birthstone, ranges in color from happy yellow to royal orange to glorious red. Ever since its discovery, citrine is valued for its inviting beauty, and recognized healing powers.
Citrine’s ancient history is tied in with yellow topaz. The two are oftentimes confused due to their similar hues. However, they have their differences. Citrine’s hardness on the Mohs scale is 7 and topaz is 8. Citrine is sometimes treated to be enhanced for the color desired, and is in the quartz family, and is a sister stone to amethyst.
